It was a highlight to my experience in living in Israel and I put it on my blog each day to remember. The articles that I include each day are those that I find interesting, so I feel you will find them interesting as well. I don't always agree with all the points of each article but found them interesting or important to share with you, my readers, and friends. It is cathartic for me to share my thoughts and frustrations with you about life in general and in Israel. Born in Bavaria, his father, Lazarus, came to the United States in 1852 to seek his fortune; the rest of the family followed two years later. Living in Georgia, the family lost everything during the Civil War and moved to New York after the war's end, where Lazarus Straus founded a crockery and glassware firm. In 1875 Nathan Straus married Lina Guthertz and they had six children. Two of them died before their third birthday, a third died as a teenager. By 1888 the family had entered into a partnership with one of their largest customers, RH Macy, purchasing the entire company outright a few years later.
