Get to Heaven Keep the Seven

Everybody wants spirituality. To be a good person means to walk in G-d's ways. How does that translate to reality? The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

This blog will show you how to be Jewish without the work!!

Yehuda Lave, Spiritual Advisor and Counselor

Yehuda Lave is an author, journalist, psychologist, rabbi, spiritual teacher and coach, with degrees in business, psychology and Jewish Law. He works  with people from all walks of life and helps them in their search for greater happiness, meaning, business advice on saving money,  and spiritual engagement

My biggest influence as a child religiously was my Grandfather on My Father's side. 41 years ago, on a bitter cold and snowbound day,  my grandfather, was buriend in Forest Park, Illinois, home to a large Jewish cemetery. It has been said that there are more deceased than the living in this small town, which borders Chicago.

I never had the chance to know and to love my maternal grandfather, because he was tortured and murdered by the Nazis. I am planning on visiting where he lived in February when I see where my Mother's birthday.
Today, on the anniversary of Ben Franklin's birthday, I salute both of these Heroes. But I was raised in Orthodoxy because of My Ukrainian Grandfather who took me to Shul and as a  Rabbi, showed my Jewish heritage for the first time. Today is his Yarhseit and may he continue to go Higher and Higher in Gan Eden, because of his Grandchildren

Egyptian Children Punished for Parents' Sins?

In the Book of Exodus, God indicates that He will slay all the Egyptian first-borns if Pharaoh will not allow the Israelites to leave. Why should the son suffer for the sins of the father? This contradicts the normal concepts of justice and Jewish law. Please explain.

The Aish Rabbi Replies:

In one place, the Torah says "...each man shall die for his own sins" (Deut. 24:16), while in the Ten Commandments it says the opposite: that God "counts the sins of the fathers on the sons." (Exodus 20:5)

The Talmud explains the distinction: Children are only held accountable for their parents' misdeeds only when they perpetuate those bad actions. (Actually, the children can be held even more accountable than the parents because a bad behavior which continues for more than one generation deepens the damage to society.)

Accordingly, all the Egyptians were punished in the Ten Plagues because they participated in mistreating the Jews. Although it appeared as if Pharaoh was solely responsible for the slavery, in truth the suffering and humiliation the Jews suffered would not have been possible without collective agreement, and a national effort on the part of all Egyptians.

As for the first-born, given their influential position within the family they bear more responsibility, and were subject to an especially strong punishment.

By the way, someone who carries on their parents' bad values – but never had the opportunity to learn otherwise – is not held accountable.

United Nations Unmasked for the Anti Semites they are

Last Month, the he United Nations was called upon to do what is right; condemn Hamas. They failed in spectacular fashion, by showing their true colors.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted last Thursday not to support a US-led resolution condemning Hamas.

The resolution required a two-thirds majority in order to pass. Haley sought to have a simple majority suffice, but a resolution was passed by the body that changed the requirement to a majority of two-thirds.

In total, 87 nations voted in favor of the resolution while 57 voted against it and 33 abstained.

Haley will step down from her position at the end of the year. Since she began representing the United States at the UN, she has pushed back on countries critical of Israel and explicitly cited "anti-Israel bias" as the reason for the US withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council earlier this year.

The UNGA, comprising 193 nations, has never condemned Hamas, the ruling party in the Gaza strip since 2007.

The US-sponsored resolution sought to condemn the group for firing hundred of rocketes into Israel last November

The European Union backed the US measure to condemn Hamas, giving Haley a much-needed 28 vote boost for her resolution.

Haley sent a letter to every UN mission on Thursday stating that the "United States takes the outcome of this vote very seriously."

"Hamas uses torture and arbitrary arrests to punish its political opponents. It has made Gaza a police state, all while Hamas spends its resources — including UN resources — on rockets and terror tunnels," Haley said during her remarks ahead of the vote. "The question before us now is whether the UN thinks terrorism is acceptable if, and only if, it is directed against Israel."

The resolution "condemns Hamas for repeatedly firing rockets into Israel and for inciting violence," demands that "Hamas and other militant actors, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad, cease all provocative actions and violent activity, including by using airborne incendiary devices," and "encourages tangible steps" towards reuniting "the Gaza Strip and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority."

UNGA resolutions are nonbinding but signify the political priorities of UN member states.

A Celestial Menorah by Rabbi Naton Slifkin

On the eve of Chanukah in December, Mr. Lee Samson, chairman of the museum foundation (and also my father-in-law), took this extraordinary photograph of a natural menorah formed in the Jerusalem sky by the clouds refracting the sunlight. If I didn't personally know the person who took the photo, I would be certain that it was photoshopped! And the timing makes it doubly amazing!

(Cue discussion about whether this is an example of a supernatural intervention, or merely a wonderful natural phenomenon with coincidental timing!)
