| Gratitude is good for us. For one, it strengthens our heart muscle! Researchers have discovered that an attitude of gratitude also keeps us physically healthy, raising the level of IgG, the infection fighting cells in our immune system. A heart filled with gratitude expresses itself in EKG lines which are "coherent," i.e., harmonious and peaceful. In contrast, anger and frustration create jagged or "incoherent" spikes. | REVEALED: The incredible reason NASA's Mars Rover survived over 10 years on the Red Planet THE amazing reason why NASA's Mars Rover lived for more than a decade longer than it should have has been revealed. PUBLISHED: 03:57, Mon, Feb 18, 2019 | UPDATED: 08:06, Mon, Feb 18, 2019 NASA: Expert discusses the work of Opportunity Rover Current Time 0:06 Duration 0:52 NASA's twin probes Opportunity and Spirit landed on Mars within weeks of each other in January 2004, with original missions set to be concluded within around three months. Each was tasked with looking for signs of past water activity as authorities continued to map out the terrestrial planet. According to Space.com, Spirit was able to explore its patch of Mars until 2010 while Opportunity managed to keep investigating until a huge dust storm boiled around the rover in June last year. After months of trying to revive Opportunity, NASA officially declared both rovers', which were of a similar size to a golf cart, missions had been completed. And now Mars Exploration Rover project manager John Callas, of NASA's jet propulsion laboratory in Pasadena, California, has explained why the droids were able to survive on the planet for so long. He argues factors such as the Martian weather allowed the solar-powered robots to continue powering up. Strong winds also aided their longevity, cleaning the robots to ensure they could carry on working. (Image: GETTY) He told a conference at the end of the mission: "This, on a seasonal cycle, actually became pretty reliable and allowed us to survive not just the first winter but all the winters we experienced on Mars and to keep going and exploring." He said that the batteries on each rover were also "the finest batteries in the solar system". He added: "We were innovative in problem-solving and figuring out ways how to keep this rover going and how to keep it productive and to continue that exploration and scientific discovery. "The rover would get cold, but it would stay just warm enough that, in the morning, when the sun would come up and we would power everything back up, it never got below its allowable temperatures. Spirit was killed off in 2009 when it got trapped in soft sand (Image: GETTY) NASA scientists pay tribute to the Opportunity Rover "So, it probably wasn't sleeping at night when it needed to, and that heater was stuck on, draining away whatever energy the solar arrays were accumulating from the sun to charge those batteries. "That might be part of the explanation, in addition to the fact that now it's much colder and darker on Mars." Mr Callas said that Spirit was killed off in 2009 when it got trapped in soft sand. Despite his team's best efforts, they were unable to free the robot and was unable to recharge itself following a harsh winter. Opportunity, he continued, was broken during a plant-shrouding dust storm in 2018. |

Jerusalem hotel removes pro-traditional family banner Following pressure from LGBT activists, hotel apologizes for 'racist' pro-traditional family advertisement. Gil Ronen, 13/02/19 14:13 Banner which was removed from Prima Park Hotel Hazon movement A pro-traditional family banner advertisement put up on the side of a hotel in Jerusalem was removed Wednesday morning, following pressure from LGBT activists. The banner, which had been paid for by the Hazon (Vision) movement and placed on the hotel by an advertising firm which rents the hotel's exterior walls for such advertisements, read "A Father + A Mother = A Family. The courage to be normal." The advertisement had been placed on the side of the Prima Park Hotel in the capital. On Wednesday morning, however, the hotel's management ordered the removal of the advertisement, and issued an apology via the hotel's Facebook account, calling the ad "racist". "I am sorry and I apologize for the offensive sign which was put up on the wall of the Prima Park Hotel in Jerusalem," wrote Prima CEO Avi Dor. "The advertisement was put up by an outside advertising company which we rent ad space to. After we noticed the offensive and racist advertisement, which we totally condemn and distance ourselves from, the sign was removed. We will work to ensure that in the future, every sign is checked before it goes up on the hotel's wall. I thank everyone who brought this to our attention, and again, we are sorry for the harm this sign caused." An LGBT activist shared a letter via Facebook that he had written to the hotel's management demanding the sign's removal. "The moment you aid this backwardness, you exclude me and an entire community from your hotels. That's too bad, because the Eurovision [in Tel Aviv] and the [gay] parade are coming up, and there will be tons of tourists. I suggest you rethink hanging these paid advertisements on your hotels." |
