don't spit on my city by Shalom Pollock The manager of Jerusalem's Tower of David Museum, proudly declared, "Jerusalem belongs to everybody". Really? Wait a second. isn't that what the "Nations" have been insisting; that there is no particular Jewish claim and heritage with Jerusalem? Would not the proper statement from a Jewish manager of the Museum of Jerusalem in the eternal Jewish capital better have been something like," Our eternal Jewish capital invites guests to share in its beauty and history." If there is one city in all of God's creation that specifically does not belong to everybody it is His chosen city for His chosen people. Did I get that wrong? There are surely those who do not identify with the urgency of my observation. They may not be aware of a monumental and escalating battle being waged these days The battle I speak of is being fought on various fronts and on many levels. For those who have not noticed, today the very legitimacy of the existence of a Jewish country is being challenged exponentially all over the world, even by Jews. Indeed, the Prophet Zachariah saw it coming long ago (Zachariah 12:3),"..And all the Nations of the earth will gather against it (Jerusalem)." Even more surprising than the pathological, universal attack on the Jewish connection to Jerusalem is another quote from Zacharia: "(12:2); And Judah shall also partake in the siege of Jerusalem" Judah too? This is confusing. It would seem that the prophet indeed saw far into the future and was able to hear Jewish voices declare that Jerusalem "belongs to the Nations". The same Tower of David Museum of Jerusalem, in cooperation with the "Open University" prepared a conference whose agenda was to try to understand why "Jews are spitting on Christians in Jerusalem ". I must have been sleeping but I don't know any Jew who does that. I never saw it and no one that I know is aware of it. They would have us think it is a dangerous spreading plague It fits a pattern. The same Jews who work to diminish the Jewish character of Jerusalem and the Jewish state (for a "state of all its citizens") are the ones to see the need for a high-profile conference about how (religious) Jews offend Goyim in Jerusalem. "Hit the (religious) Jews and save the country!" The experts on the panels want to ring the alarm and warn of a truly terrible phenomenon, a threat to Jerusalem of the Nations. to Israel of the Nations, to a country of Nations. Are there no actual pressing problems to remedy in Jerusalem? What about a conference about why Muslims increasingly accost, humiliate and harm Jews daily in our holy capital city? No, not that. That would be too parochial and boring. Complaining about attacks on Jews is not what their sophisticated audience wants to hear about. They want to hear that a religious Jewish youth spat on a Goy. To be sure, most of the Israeli media gives more attention to a spitting incident (if a Jew spat at a Goy and not the other way around) than a Jewish family being attacked and terrorized by Muslims. How boring. The "spitting conference" is a rush to close ranks with every challenger to the unique Jewish connection and claim to sovereignty of our holy city. It's a pattern. Less Jewish is good. More Jewish is bad This is Judah coming up against Jerusalem and against Judaism itself. This is the war today. The prophet saw it all.
