It was a highlight to my experience in living in Israel and I put it on my blog each day to remember. The articles that I include each day are those that I find interesting, so I feel you will find them interesting as well. Salvador Dali (not a Jew, as Adam Sandler might say) created an amazing series of paintings about Zionism and aliyah. Remarkable Dali Art Exhibit Dedicated for Emergency Department Lobby Visitors to Shaare Zedek are now being treated to a remarkable artistic exhibition beautifying the walls adjacent to the Weinstock Department of Emergency Medicine on the Fanya Gottesfeld Heller Floor.The exhibit features the "Aliyah" series by renowned artist Salvador Dali, which was produced on the occasion of Israel's twentieth anniversary. The suite of dramatic paintings features key moments in the development of the Zionist enterprise. Included are works picturing scenes from the War of Independence, the Western Wall and other known symbols from across the Holy Land. The images are both inspiring and haunting, and include recognition of the chronological connection between the rebirth of a modern State of Israel and the Holocaust. The exhibit was made possible through the generosity of Francine Gani of Palo Alto, who donated the lithographs from her personal collection. Francine, who serves on the American Committee's National Board and as the Chair of the Northwest Region, has become one of the Hospital's closest friends and benefactors in recent years. After a visit to the Hospital, she saw an opportunity to show this additional expression of solidarity by donating these impressive works of art. The exhibit had been part of her private art collection for some years and she thought that a major medical facility in Israel's capital would be the perfect home for this remarkable display, depicting Israel's modern experience. Professor Jonathan Halevy, Shaare Zedek's Director-General saluted Ms. Gani's generosity saying that while the Hospital has many philanthropic supporters, Francine distinguishes herself as someone who is truly committed to every aspect of Shaare Zedek's well-being. "This exhibit is a reminder both of Israel's special history and the passion and sacrifice which defines Zionism.
