Get to Heaven Keep the Seven

Everybody wants spirituality. To be a good person means to walk in G-d's ways. How does that translate to reality? The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

This blog will show you how to be Jewish without the work!!

Restrain the festival by bonds to the corners of the altar (Psalms 118:27).

The Talmud states that if a person celebrates the day after the holiday with a festive meal, it is considered as though he had built an altar and had brought sacrificial offerings upon it (Succah 45b).

Rashi states that the reason for the eighth day, Shemini Atzeres, can be explained with the parable of a king who invited his children for several days of feasting. When the time came for them to leave, the king said, "Your departure is so difficult for me. Please stay with me for yet one more day" (Rashi, Leviticus 23:36). Similarly, after seven days of Succos, in His great love for Israel, God asks us to stay with Him for yet one more day before returning to our mundane activities, which so often distract us from Him.

To indicate that we cherish our closeness to God just as He does, we add a day of festivity after the last day of the holiday, to extend even further the intimate companionship with God. This testimony, that we value our intimacy with Him and that we leave the Sanctuary only because we must tend to our obligations, is held equivalent to building an altar and bringing votive offerings.

Indeed, God wants us to engage in work - Six days shall you work (Exodus 20:9) - but our attitude toward the workweek should be that of a person who is away from home on an assigned duty, and who longs to return home to his loved ones. The importance of our closeness to God should be manifest not only on the day following the festival but all year round as well.

Today I shall ...
... try to maintain the closeness with God, that I achieved during the festival, even when I am involved with the activities of everyday life.

Doll with Hair from Girl Murdered in Holocaust Found at Toy Museum

The Anatolian Toy Museum in the southern Turkish city of Antalya, has put on display a 78-year-old baby doll with real human hair from a Jewish girl victim of the Holocaust, as shown on footage from Sunday. According to reports, the girl was killed in Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II in 1941. "During the slaughter, the hair of those Jewish little girls were shaved right before they were sent to the gas chambers. The hairs of those little victims were used as hair for these dolls, which were made for the children of the rich German families and the high rank Nazi officers," said Emrah Unlusoy, Director of the Anatolia Toy Museum. According to him, the doll belonged to a collector from Auschwitz. "First he didn't want to give it to us but when he understood that we are representing a museum, he told us that he was keeping this doll since long to be displayed in a museum," he said. The Anatolian Toy Museum opened its doors in 2017 and had over 500,000 visitors from all ages during its first year of operation.

Additional story from the web site:

The Anatolian toy museum in Antalya, southern Turkey, has a 78-year-old baby doll with real hair from a child Holocaust victim on display, according to a report from Ruptly.

The hair that is displayed in a glass case at the toy museum comes from a Jewish girl murdered at Auschwitz in 1941.

The doll was purchased at a special exhibition of a curator in Germany and transferred to the Antalya Museum.

Emrah Ünlüsoy, director of the Anatolian Toy Museum, said the doll "is a very precious artifact of the museum, and it has a very touching story. In Nazi Germany, some 1,000 Jews were being slaughtered every day in Auschwitz."

Before being sent to the gas chambers, girls' hair was cut and used on dolls made for rich German children. "This is the tragedy of dolls with real hair," he said.

The local Jewish community, wishing to reach the living members of the murdered girl's family were allowed to take a sample of hair from the doll for DNA analysis,

Jerry Lewis vs Muhammad Ali 1963 (includes poem)

In 1963, Ali was still known as Cassius Clay. Having defeated name fighters Archie Moore and Henry Cooper, he was hyping his title fight with champ Sonny Liston. (It was after defeating Liston that he announced his new name). In the poem that closes his segment, he mentions Phil Foster (Jerry's first guest that night) and makes a cheeky reference to Jerry's show nearing the end of its tumultuous ABC run.
