Get to Heaven Keep the Seven

Everybody wants spirituality. To be a good person means to walk in G-d's ways. How does that translate to reality? The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

This blog will show you how to be Jewish without the work!!

An Emergency Tool For The Sensitive

At times there is so much suffering in the world that a sensitive person finds it difficult to tolerate. The Brisker Rav, Rabbi Yitzhak Zev Soloveitchik, applied the following Talmudic statement as his advice for such people in such times: "He who wants to live should act as if he were dead." The Talmud teaches that if you feel the suffering of others too  much you can not function.

There are times when human suffering is so great that a person who feels the suffering of others will simply not be able to continue living. While we have an obligation to feel the suffering of others, we should protect ourselves from overdoing it and destroying ourselves.

At times, said the Brisker Rav, we should adopt an attitude as if we were no longer alive and only then will we be able to exist. Like everything else, don't take this out of context. Feeling the suffering of others is good, because it helps you emphasize for them. We are talking about feeling it so much you can not function.

Celebrate Simchat Torah/Shimini Atzeret

Immediately following the seven-day festival of Sukkot comes the festival of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah (October 23-25, 2016 in America only October 24 in Israel) when we conclude — and begin anew — the annual Torah reading cycle. The holiday is marked with unbridled rejoicing, especially during the "hakafot" procession, as we march, sing and dance with the Torah scrolls.
"On Simchat Torah," goes the chassidic adage, "we rejoice in the Torah, and the Torah rejoices in us; the Torah, too, wants to dance, so we become the Torah's dancing feet."
As the month of Tishrei comes to a close, we have experienced and celebrated the most powerful moments of the Jewish year. As the Torah reading cycle comes to an end, we have read, studied and were inspired by its timeless teachings. As we start reading the Torah all over again, what new lessons, insights, and inspiration will we derive this time around?
Wishing you a most joyful holiday!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2016 when...
  1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.  2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.  3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.  4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
  5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.  6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries...    7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic, and you turn around to go and get it .  10. You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.   11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )  12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.  13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.  14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.  15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list .
  ~~~~~~~~~~~AND FINALLY~~~~~ ~~~~~~~  NOW you're LAUGHING at yourself! "Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused!"
