The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

The Three Musketeers at the Kotel

The Three are Rabbi Yehuda Glick, famous temple mount activist, and former Israel Mk, and then Robert Weinger, the world's greatest shofar blower and seller of Shofars, and myself after we had gone to the 12 gates of the Temple Mount in 2020 to blow the shofar to ask G-d to heal the world from the Pandemic. It was a highlight to my experience in living in Israel and I put it on my blog each day to remember.

The articles that I include each day are those that I find interesting, so I feel you will find them interesting as well. I don't always agree with all the points of each article but found them interesting or important to share with you, my readers, and friends. It is cathartic for me to share my thoughts and frustrations with you about life in general and in Israel. As a Rabbi, I try to teach and share the Torah of the G-d of Israel as a modern Orthodox Rabbi. Olive Oil's Many Uses Throughout History

Olive oil has long been used to enhance the pleasures of food. Thought Co says the signs of olive oil in cooking can be found as far back as the fifth century BCE. However, as Science explains, the preserved site of Pompeii gives more concrete details about how ancient people consumed olive oil. In 2021, researchers applied a new method of isolating the amino acids in the bones preserved by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Previously, we knew the types of food that Romans ate in southern Italy. However, we now have insight into their proportions.

According to the data, olive oil accounted for at least 12% of their diet. "Oil wasn't a condiment, it was a proper ingredient," Silvia Soncin, an archaeologist at the Sapienza University of Rome, explained to Science. "They got a lot of energy out of it." While you cannot reasonably infer that the people in Britain consumed olive oil in such quantities, for example, the results show that olive oil was a staple food. However, olive oil's uses stretched far beyond the culinary.

Olive oil was integral to society

Olive oil's multifaceted nature can be seen in the founding myth of Athens. As Fratelli Carli states, there was a competition between Poseidon and Athena to see whose name would grace the city. Poseidon created horses for warfare, though Greek Boston says he offered flowing salt water. Athena, however, created the olive tree, which proved more useful.

These uses included fueling lamps, providing nutrition, and cleaning wounds. ThoughtCo notes that the term, "Messiah," means anointed one, and such anointing's were typically carried out with a type of olive oil. UNRV goes into detail about how olive oil can be used in each case. For bathing, olive oil served as a cleanser that exfoliated and drew out the grime from one's skin. Olive oil produced a nightlife, as it could provide artificial light without an overpowering smell or smoke. It was so plentiful that it even found its way to lubricating machinery. Olive oil was everywhere in Greek and Roman society, even more so than today.

There are a lot of conflicts between jewish and arabs residents of Hebron, but there are also moments of cooperation. For four consecutive days, 150 senior citizens pulled on a swim-like cap and allowed parts of their brain to be bathed with low-dose electrical pulses. During 20-minute sessions, they were given five lists of 20 words each and asked to recall them. In some, the oscillations were directed to an area of the brain known to be involved in short-term memory, where a just-learned phone number would be stored. They were tested to see how many recently-mentioned words they remembered. In others, the pulses were aimed farther forward, in an area known for storing memories longer-term. For them, though they didn't know it, the test was to see how many of the earliest words they recalled.

After the treatment, nearly all the participants did better on memory tests than they had before and better than controls. People who scored worse at the beginning showed the most improvement. And memory benefits remained a month later, according to a new study from Boston University, published Monday in the journal Nature Neuroscience. Although still in its early days, with lots of steps before such technology could be fully tested and become widely available, its implications are immense. How could this help older people? As people age, even without diseases like dementia, everyone becomes more forgetful, misplacing their car keys or even their car, struggling to learn new information and finding planning more difficult. A simple treatment with electrical pulses that could prevent decline or potentially restore some of these functions could dramatically improve lives. Researchers are still figuring out the right "dose" and how long the benefits might last, but they hope that eventually their technology could become available for at-home use. What other uses might it have? The study looked at people ages 65-88, most suffering typical memory loss or mild cognitive impairment, a precursor to dementia. The researchers are also exploring the technology to treat people with schizophrenia-associated memory loss and with obsessive-compulsive behaviors.

RABBI SCHWARTZ'S TERRIBLE CHOICE JOKES OF THE WEEK

Berel enters his multiple choice (Mivchan Amerakai as they call it here) Bagrut (regent's) Exam. .

So David Ben Gurion dies and he comes up to heaven and they don't know what to do with him. On the one hand he established the homeland for the Jews to return and brought thousands to the Holy Land. He gave grants and exemptions for Torah scholars and those that study in Kollel. At the same time he wasn't observant and was even anti-religious, taking children away from their religious homes and trying to make them secular. So they gave him a choice. He gets back in the elevator and it goes down and the gates open up and he sees surprisingly a similar scene. Beach, drinks, pool and he sees some of his friends playing backgammon that wave to him. So they bring him back upstairs and ask him where he'd like to go.

"Well they both seem nice, "He says "but the chevra seems to be downstairs, so I think I'll go there". So they put him back in and he heads downstairs. However this time when the gates open up he sees angels of destruction with torches, people are burning screaming and look terrified.

"Woahh, what's this? This isn't what you showed me before?!"

Ohhh.., that? That was your pilot trip. Welkam to Eezrael…"

So the American people's choices for the next President will apparently be either Donald Trump or Joe Biden. That is the joke. There's no punchline here.
