Get to Heaven Keep the Seven

Everybody wants spirituality. To be a good person means to walk in G-d's ways. How does that translate to reality? The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

This blog will show you how to be Jewish without the work!!

The heroes that protect the city of Jerusalem by living on the ring of fire around us

Uncertainty Is Inevitable

In many areas of our lives uncertainty is inevitable. You will cause yourself much needless pain if you unrealistically demand certainty. Even in extremely important areas of our lives we are likely to be uncertain.

If you can let go of unrealistic demands for certainty, you will actually achieve more peace of mind than if you were certain!

What is the proper attitude? Try to be as certain as possible, and accept that any remaining uncertainty will not exacerbate your situation.

As we go into the brave new world of new leadership, everyone including the new President must remember only G-d knows what is next.

What HaShem Asks of Klal Yisrael Rabbi Akiva said that the fulfillment of the verse, "Love your friend as you love yourself," is the foundational principle of the Torah. Therefore, it is important to  conduct all of our relationships with a great measure of love. The more we love others, the more we grasp the roots of the holy Torah. In this light, "HaShem said to Klal Yisrael: 'My beloved children, all I ask of you is that you love each other, honor each other, and respect each other; and that there be no injustice amongst you.'"  Lesson: Our mission is to live peacefully as the children of HaShem. When Klal Yisrael has love, unity, and respect for each other, we are pleasing to HaShem -- and HaShem will redeem us. Visualization: Envision awakening the love in your heart so that you love other people as you love yourself. Make a special effort to be kind and gracious to every person. Know that these good virtues are pleasing to HaShem, and will help awaken great blessings, miracles, and redemption for you and Klal Yisrael. (Based on the Middos V'Mitzvos, of the Chofetz Chaim)

On Tuesday the 17th I was with Sholom Pollock and Ateret Cohanim as we visited the heroes of Jerusalem as they protect us by living in the ring communities around us

Ateret Cohanim (Hebrew: עמותת עטרת כהנים‎‎ lit. "Crown of the Priests"), also Ateret Yerushalayim, is an Israeli Jewish organization with a yeshiva located in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It works for the creation of a Jewish majority in the Old City and Arab neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.

Founded in 1978, it was originally known under the name Atara Leyoshna (lit. "[returning the] former glory"). After many disagreements about the nature of its activities, the organization closed and re-opened as a new association called Ateret Cohanim with a yeshiva. While the activities of Atara Leyoshna focused mainly on locating Jewish assets in the Muslim Quarter and transferring them into Jewish hands through legal means, the activities of Ateret Cohanim involves acquiring houses in the Muslim quarter or renting them from government companies and populating them with Jews. The association owns many buildings in the Old City, where over 80 families live. Some estimate that 1,000 Israeli Jews live in houses that Ateret Cohanim purchased in the Old City since 1978.[1] It controls at least seven other organizations that are not registered in Israel, but they are registered in tax shelters, like the Virgin Islands and Guernsey.[2]

The head of the association is Mati Dan. It depends heavily on donations from American Jewish businessman Irving Moskowitz (now deceased) and his wife Cherna Moskowitz

Around 2000, Ateret Cohanim and another organization, the Ir David Foundation, began to acquire land in Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem outside the Old City. They operate mainly in the village of Silwan and at the Beit Orot Yeshiva on the Mount of Olives.

In the Old City, the yeshiva was involved in buying property from Arabs, Greeks, and Armenians. Ateret Cohanim reportedly owns more than 70 buildings in the Muslim Quarter. The property includes their yeshiva, the building that houses Yeshiva Shuvu Banim, several dormitories, a museum, and about 50 apartment units. Some of the property belonged to Jews who lived in the Muslim Quarter before they were driven out by pogroms in 1929 and 1936. Other properties belonged to the Greek Orthodox Church, in the Christian Quarter, prior to a disputed deal which involved the Patriarch Irineos, resulting in properties tenants in the Christian Quarter being driven out.[3]

Rabbi Nissan Ben-Avraham is one of the notable alumni of the yeshiva.

In May, 2015 Ateret Cohanim reclaimed legal ownership of the Old Yemenite Synagogue in the nineteenth century Jewish Yemenite Village Kfar Hashiloach (Hebrew: כפר השילוח‎‎) neighborhood in the Jerusalem district of Silwan.[4][5] The building's new residence moved into the building at approximately 01:00 after being met by Arabs throwing rocks at them.[6]
