Get to Heaven Keep the Seven

Everybody wants spirituality. To be a good person means to walk in G-d's ways. How does that translate to reality? The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

This blog will show you how to be Jewish without the work!!

Reassess your Value

Low self-image usually forms at an early age. A person might have had excessively critical parents or teachers, failed to get along well with other children, or received low marks in school.

Though this attitude was formed long ago, the only reason it lasts in the present is because a person now keeps repeating it to himself. Yet he has the ability to tell himself, "In the past I may have judged myself to be inferior, but I will now think for myself and appreciate my true value."

Being aware of the source of poor self-image makes it easier to challenge the assumptions upon which it is based. It is possible that while you had certain faults in the past, you presently are learning to overcome them.

Or, perhaps the people who judge you unfavorably were using a yardstick that you do not presently accept. For example, in school a student is usually judged by the marks he receives on tests. Some students with low grades worked hard to understand, and more importantly may have internalized the concepts and practiced them to a greater degree than others who received higher grades. As a child, the diligent student with poor grades might have felt inferior, but as an adult he has the ability to appreciate how he may have really accomplished more.

With Passover coming up, it is time to start planning your Chul Amud (the week of break trips). There are 5 days to do something this year, becasue the Seder starts on Shabbat and there is no Chul Amud Shabbat. Among the best values I have seen and a trip I am going on bli-neder is the Hebron Trip on Wendesday, April 4. The trip will gocus on Rabbi Kahane's pivotal and Historical role in emphasizing the Jewish claim to Hevron. The price is only 85 shecks. Please contact me to sign up.

If one wishes to add on more restrictions than the law requires, one may do so for oneself, but not [make such demands] of others (Shulchan Aruch).

Some people employ a double standard. One set of rules applies to themselves, and another to everyone else. The Shulchan Aruch, the standard authoritative compilation of Jewish law, accepts this policy - but on one condition: the more restrictive set of rules must apply to oneself, and the more lenient apply to other people.

Guidelines exist for many things, such as the percentage of income that one should give for tzedakah. Many tzaddikim, righteous people, retained only the barest minimum of their income for themselves, just enough to provide for their families, and gave everything else to the poor. However, they would never expect anyone else to follow their example, and some even forbade it.

Our minds are ingenious in concocting self-serving rationalizations. Sometimes we may have excellent reasons not to give more liberally to tzedakah, even if it is within the required amount. We may project into the future, worry about our economic security, and conclude that we should put more money away for a rainy day. Yet we often criticize people who we feel do not give enough to tzedakah.

We should be aware of such rationalizations and remember that the more demanding rules should apply to ourselves. If we are going to rationalize, let us rationalize in a way that gives the benefit of doubt to others.

Today I shall ...

remember to be more demanding of myself than I am of others.

New Secret Service Agent

There was a new secret service agent on duty in front of the White House when the President went out to go into his limousine to travel to an appointment. Just then a would-be assassin came out and pointed his gun at the president. The new agent quickly shouted 'MICKEY MOUSE," startling the would-be assassin who froze and was quickly grabbed and disarmed by the secret service agents, saving the President. . When this brief incident was over, the superior of the new agent called him aside and asked him what made him suddenly yell "Mickey Mouse," to which the agent replied, "Actually I was nervous and meant to yell "Donald, Duck."

Inside The First Amazon Go Store

Here's what it's like inside Amazon's cashier-less store. Amazon Go has no checkout lines, cashiers, or registers. The store is located in Seattle, right near Amazon's campus. They sell prepared foods and grocery staples. There's also a small selection of beer and wine. You use the Amazon Go app to enter the store. Here's how the entire process works. Customers enter the turnstiles by scanning a QR code. Anything you pick up is added to your virtual cart. Any items you put back will automatically be removed from your cart. Once you finished shopping, you can walk right out. No cashier needed. Your Amazon account will automatically be charged. But how does Amazon make sure no one steals anything? Amazon Go uses cameras and high-tech sensors. The combination of cameras and sensors keeps track of where the items are located. However, the technology isn't perfect, as some YouTubers have proven. Currently, Seattle is Amazon Go's pilot location. Will walk in and walk out stores be the future of retail?

See you tomorrow
