Get to Heaven Keep the Seven

Everybody wants spirituality. To be a good person means to walk in G-d's ways. How does that translate to reality? The only guidebook to spirituality that has stood the test of time is the Hebrew Bible. The Bible says that the Jews will be a light onto the nations. But if you are not a born Jew, you have to convert, which is not so easy!! If you do convert, it is a lot of work to be a Jew (three times a day prayer, keeping kosher, observing the Sabbath).

This blog will show you how to be Jewish without the work!!

Scare Mongering about Deaths in September

Is the glass half empty or half full? The headline in the Jerusalem Post 10/29/20 on page 4 reads nearly 20% more died in September 2020 than 2019. As a start in the fear-mongering, the number is 18.6 which is nearly 19%, not 20%.

Next, the Population of Israel increased by 136,000 people from 2019 to 2020. The average death rate is 5.4 people per thousand per year so 5.4 times 136 is 734.4 people. If you divide that number by 12 (assuming an average death rate by year) you get 61.2 people

The story states "According to the report, some 4,036 people died this year, versus 3,403 last year – a difference of 18.6%". If I add 3403 and 61 that comes to 3464. Now the true number is down to 16.5%

So if you do the proper figures comparing apples and apples, when you compare the accurate populations. This is just common sense. If you ask how many people died in September 2000 when the population was a million people less, you would have 5.4 times 1000 (a million is 1000 thousand) or 5,400 divided by 12 which equals 450 fewer deaths. Would we have a scaremongering headline that read 540 more people died in September 2020 than 2010? In addition, there is some variance each year, and some Septembers more people died. Is 572 more deaths really a significant variance?

The article states "So far, according to the latest numbers provided by the ministry, 2,483 people have died of COVID-19". There is a lot of mixing of numbers, possibly on purpose to confuse people in the article. This is the entire number of covid deaths the whole year not in September.

"In October alone, between the first report disseminated by the ministry on October 1 and the morning report on October 28, 912 people had died of coronavirus – around 33 people per day. So at 33 people a day for 30 days in September, you have 990 people but the increase in deaths. The increase in deaths is 4036 less 3464 or 572. So you must have a decrease of other deaths of 990 minus 572 or a decrease in other causes of 418 people. Why doesn't the headline scream "DECREASE IN DEATHS OF OTHER CAUSES!"

Finally, the article states "The ministry reported that 312,024 people have been diagnosed with the virus, meaning that 0.8% of those diagnosed have succumbed to the disease" Again a suspicious number. Just because 312,024 people have been diagnosed doesn't mean that there are a lot more people that have not been diagnosed so this percentage is obviously high, even though it looks like it is more the way it is juxtaposed, but it is still less than 1%. In addition, there is no reference to how many of that 0.8% were elderly which raises the % a great deal. We know that the COVID is a real disease, but please don't fear monger to make the matters worse.

The Three Musketeers at the Kotel

The Portion of Lech Lecha

Abraham is commanded by G-d to leave his land, his birthplace his father's home, and to go to a land that the Lord will show him. Is this new land better than the old land? Will the journey be an easy one or do difficulties await him on the road?

G-d eases Abraham's concerns with the promise that he will be blessed and that others will be blessed by him.

"And I will bless those who bless you" (Genesis 12;3).

G-d did not reveal to Abraham the essence of that blessing. In order to know exactly what the content of the blessing is we must turn to the well-known text of the priestly blessing: "May G-d bless you and keep you…" (Numbers 6;24-26).

The priestly blessing is composed of 60 letters and is recited daily in Eretz Yisrael by the kohanim during the morning service.

The numerical value of the letter "kaf" is 20. The three crowns atop the "final kaf" in the word "mevarchecha" (those who bless you) is 3 X 20=60- an allusion to the number of letters in the priestly blessing.

Supercomputer-developed face shields may offer a lifeline for Japan's restaurant industry

Using the Fugaku supercomputer, the world's fastest, a consortium of Japanese researchers has developed a wrap-around face shield that can more effectively block airborne droplets and reduce exposure to the coronavirus for diners at pubs and restaurants.

With many restaurants struggling to make ends meet as customers stay away over concerns of infection, Toppan Printing Co. and Suntory Liquors Ltd. launched an initiative to develop an effective face shield that could be worn while dining out. They sought help from the state-backed Riken research institute, which created the Fugaku supercomputer jointly with Fujitsu Ltd.

The computer simulation has found that a typical face shield that covers only the mouth would block only about 30% of oral droplets from spreading through the air. After studying various options using the supercomputer, the team has confirmed that the chosen design can block about 70% of droplets with a bowl-shaped design that covers a wider area from the chin to the nose.

The face shield is made of a transparent thermoplastic material and its mouth covering can be easily moved to the side so that people can eat while wearing it. The product, which also protects the eyes, is now being tested at several restaurants in the Tokyo area.

Toppan said it plans to make the final computer-aided design available for free to the public so that any manufacturer can produce it. A Toppan spokesman said the company was in charge of the development and manufacturing of the face shield and that it was open to taking manufacturing orders from other firms.

The consortium said it hopes that sales of the face shield will begin in time for December bōnenkai(traditional year-end drinking parties).

"By making it possible for everyone to produce and use it, we're hoping that it can be disseminated rapidly in Japan to reduce the risk of infection," Suntory Liquors President Kenji Yamada said at a news conference Tuesday. "I hope that this could serve as a catalyst to revitalize the restaurant industry."

Suntory Liquors noted that the restaurant industry has been impacted severely by the coronavirus since March. Although the overall industry has seen some recovery in sales since July due to a rise in takeout orders at fast food restaurants, izakaya and other restaurants that mainly serve alcoholic beverages and snacks after work hours have been battered most severely, with sales hovering around only 40% of levels a year earlier despite a modest rebound since the spring.
